
This bill increases the notification for a rent increase to 75 days from 45 days and it increases the notice to vacate from 30 to 60 days.
Safe, stable, affordable housing is a crucial component to ensuring Mainers can thrive, but low wages plus an increasing cost of living and tight housing market have made this out of reach for many. This bill would have provided renters with a little more stability by giving tenants more time to find new housing if they are evicted or to plan for a rent increase.
The bill was vetoed by the Governor and died after failing to garner the 2/3rds votes necessary to override the veto in the House.
