What is the bill

This bill changes the Columbus Day holiday in the State to Indigenous Peoples Day.

Why it matters

There is much more that we can and must do to repair the wounds of our history for the most marginalized in our community. This bill represents a small but important step towards recognizing indigenous peoples in our country and acknowledging the hundreds of years of colonization and genocide that disrupted and displaced these groups.

The bill passed in both chambers and was signed into law by the Governor.
